Criminal Justice Sector

Martin Dawes Solutions have a comprehensive understanding of the Criminal Justice Sector, gaining experience working with Criminal Justice Organisations in designing and building complimentary audiovisual systems and videoconferencing solutions to meet their environment.

Following the success of the Prison Court Video links contract, awareness of audiovisual / videoconferencing technology and its benefits, has increased. Criminal Justice Organisations (CJO’s) such as the agencies listed below utilise the technology to improve productivity on a daily basis.

·         Ministry of Justice

·         Her Majesty Court Service

·         Crown Prosecution Service

·         National Offender Management Service

·         Tribunal Service

·         Her Majesty Prison Service

·         Parole Board

·         Youth Justice Board

Martin Dawes Solutions has provided a number of bespoke audiovisual and video conferencing solutions providing inter-agency unified communications. Examples of which are provided below

In the Courts & Prisons

Prison Court Video Links (PCVL) allows offenders to appear in court via a live video link from Her Majesty Prison Service sites. PCVL systems are primarily used for court hearings and legal visits.

Martin Dawes Solutions has also successfully integrated this technology into many of Her Majesty Court Service courtrooms, to allow the display of ‘live’ video images; this improves efficiency and provides a fair trial. Still and moving images also play a very important part in most court hearings and it is essential that the judge, prosecution/defence team and jury are able to see and understand the importance of the information that is being presented to them.

Video technology has also been further utilised in a Courts, to allow victims to provide evidence ‘externally’ to a courtroom environment. These Victims and Intimidated Witnesses (VIW) links provide a safe and secure alternative to appearing in person. Her Majesty’s Court Service also use video technologies to reduce travel via meeting rooms systems

Office of Criminal Justice Reform

The Office for Criminal Justice Reform (OCJR) is the cross-departmental team that supports all criminal justice agencies in working together.

Martin Dawes Solution is the current Audio Visual integrator for a Managed Video Service (MVS) for the Office of Criminal Justice Reform

Two pilots have been set up, between Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court and 15 centres at police stations across London, and between Maidstone Magistrates' Court in Kent and the charging centre at Medway Police Station.

The scheme follows a test in July 2007 at Camberwell, which found that the time between charge and first hearing could be cut from an average of 10 days to about four hours. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) believes virtual courts could save £10m annually; free police and court time and provide a better service to victims and witnesses.

Further more the MVS contract will also continue to provide video conferencing to connect prisons and witnesses to courts remotely (Prison Court Video Links). The system will also be used for videoconferences linking probation officers and offenders (NOMS). A Codian bridge has also been added to the overall MVS to provide the secure connected sites multi-handed video conferencing functionality

Law Firms

Many non-CJO organisations have benefited from Video conferencing technologies to communicate with Criminal Justice agencies. Law firms are a prime example of this requirement.

Martin Dawes has provided numerous personal systems at customer premises from the major video conferencing manufacturers. For example: - Polycom, Tandberg and Sony.
